Lea Black‘s husband, famed criminal defense attorney Roy Black, has died.
In a post shared to her Instagram account on Tuesday, the 69-year-old Real Housewives of Miami alum, who was featured on the Bravo reality series alongside her husband during its first three seasons, confirmed the news to her fans and followers.
“Thank you all for your blessings. We will be announcing details for a tribute and celebration of life in a few weeks,” Leah wrote on July 22.
Bravo’s The Daily Dish also shared the news, revealing to readers that Roy, who was 80 years old, had passed away on Monday, July 21, at his Coral Gables home following an undisclosed illness.
According to the outlet, Roy, a native New Yorker who attended college and law school in Miami and wrote the 1999 publication, Black’s Law, is survived by Lea, whom he married in 1994, their son, RJ, and his daughter, Nora, whom he welcomed during a previous relationship.
Up until his death, Roy continued to work at his Biscayne Boulevard law firm.
“Roy Black was the greatest criminal lawyer of our generation, perhaps in American history, achieving acquittals over a span of 50 years in some of the most challenging and notorious cases of all time,” his law partner, Howard Srebnick, told the Miami Herald.
During an interview with Reality TV Magazine in 2012, Lea, who met Roy when she served as a juror at one of his trials, spoke out about his interest in her show.
“Roy, as busy as he is, even takes time to check out the Real Housewives,” she shared. “It’s great being able to have your life captured, and at the very least we can laugh about it together!”
Back in February, Lea shared a sweet throwback photo of herself with Roy in honor of Valentine’s Day.
“[Throwback Thursday with my Valentine [Roy Black]! Love never goes out of style, and neither do sweet memories,” she captioned the pic.
The Real Housewives of Miami season seven airs Wednesdays at 9/8c on Bravo.
