‘Vanderpump Rules’ star Scheana Shay used to be close to Lisa Vanderpump. Here’s the moment their relationship changed.
Scheana Shay and Lisa Vanderpump were close during Shay’s time on Vanderpump Rules. Now, though, Shay and Vanderpump are no longer in a good place in their relationship. Shay has openly criticized Vanderpump’s behavior now that Vanderpump Rules is rebooting with a new cast. She said that the turning point in their relationship came long before the reboot, though. Shay said fans can see the moment things changed on an episode of the reality series.
Scheana Shay said she decided to stop listening to Lisa Vanderpump
In the early seasons of Vanderpump Rules, Shay and Vanderpump were close. Shay looked to Vanderpump as a mentor, and she was friends with her daughter, Pandora. Shay said this changed in the show’s sixth season.
“On season 6 of VPR, when James Kennedy told Katie Maloney that the outfit she was wearing wasn’t flattering, I got a phone call from Lisa,” Shay told Us Weekly. “She didn’t want to fire James, so she needed someone to stand up for him [at a staff meeting].”
Shay didn’t think she could support Kennedy in this way. She refused to speak up and recalled getting a dirty look from Vanderpump as a result. She said that fans might be able to catch that if they watch closely.
“If you go back and watch, I’m getting a death stare from Lisa, like, ‘When are you going to speak up? When are you going to stick to the script?’” she recalled. “That’s when I stopped following her orders, and I feel like the relationship changed after that.”
She also criticized the reality star for profiting off her pain
The backdoor pilot of Vanderpump Rules kicks off with Shay sitting down with The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills’ Brandi Glanville. Shay had an affair with her husband, Eddie Cibrian, several years before. Shay said Vanderpump knew about the affair but always claimed she didn’t.
“She low-key used my real-life pain to launch her TV empire — and what an empire she has,” she said. “She gaslit me about it for a decade instead of just coming to me in the beginning.”
She described Vanderpump as highly calculated.
“That’s the thing with Lisa: She doesn’t make mistakes,” she said. “She makes moves and then calls them coincidences.”

Shay said she hardly hears from Vanderpump anymore. According to her, they only speak when Vanderpump needs something.
“I don’t talk to her too often. She usually calls when she needs something,” she said on the Two T’s With a Pod podcast, adding, “That was recent when I talked to her. She had a question about a friend of mine on another show of hers, and that was pretty much it.”
Vanderpump took umbrage with this. She said she’s too busy to reach out to Shay with any sort of frequency.
“I’ve heard she said something nasty recently like, ‘I only call her when I need something.’ True that! Right?” she said on What What Happens Live (per Bravo). “I’ve got 600 people I work with.”
