SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WCIA) — A 57-year-old Springfield man has been arrested on first-degree murder charges after being accused of killing a woman whose remains were found over a year ago.

On Wednesday, the Illinois State Police Division of Criminal Investigation Zone 4 and Sangamon County State’s Attorney John Milhiser announced the arrest of Robert Lee Jr. for three counts of first-degree murder (Class M Felony) and one count of concealment of a homicidal death (Class 3 Felony).

On March 13, 2024, the Illinois Department of Transportation notified State Police of the discovery of human remains located along the I-55 southbound ramp from Stevenson Drive in Springfield. The victim was later identified as 54-year-old Teresa Ann Coleman of Springfield.

State Police was requested to handle the death investigation and the preliminary autopsy results showed that her death was a homicide.

Following a thorough investigation, special agents with the State Police identified Lee as the suspect. An arrest warrant was issued for Lee and on July 23, 2025, the US Marshals Service Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force and special agents took Lee into custody. He is currently being held at the Sangamon County Jail pending a detention hearing.

Despite Lee’s arrest, State Police continue to investigate the homicide. As a result, anyone with information regarding this incident that leads to a conviction can receive a cash reward of up to $5,000. People with information are urged to call Crime Stoppers anonymously at 217-788-8427.
