Netflix’s latest competition series Building The Band challenges musicians to sort themselves into groups with total strangers. From there, they have a limited period of time to train and debut a live showcase performance.

Guiding these singers throughout their reality TV show journey is a very special mentor, none other than Nicole Scherzinger, who pulls from her experience as the leader of The Pussycat Dolls. She also commented on a recently resurfaced clip of her assembling the boy band over ten years ago. “It’s really cool that it came out, because what people are actually seeing is me actually putting them together, the way my mind was working [on X Factor],” she added.

Nicole reported that, on the day of Liam’s tragic death, she and the singer were exchanging text messages, making his loss all the most devastating. The first season of Building The Band is dedicated to his memory.
