  • Nigerian rapper CDQ transitioned from a banking career to pursue music.
  • He initially became a banker to fulfill his late father’s wishes.
  • Despite securing a banking job, CDQ felt unfulfilled in that role.

Nigerian rapper CDQ has revealed why he chose to walk away from a promising banking career to chase his dream in music.

In a recent interview with the Echo Room, the “Nowo Soke” artist shared that he became a banker to honour the wishes of his late father. But despite securing the job, CDQ said he felt unfulfilled and often found himself writing music instead of focusing on work.

He credited music producer Masterkraft, who supported him during that time, even going as far as lending him suits for his banking job. However, Masterkraft was reportedly shocked when CDQ made a bold decision to quit.

CDQ recalled:

“I quit my bank job. I couldn’t tell my mother or any family member then. I left the house and went to stay with Masterkraft in the studio. I told him banking isn’t my passion. I will probably just do it to make ends meet. But music is something that whether it gives me a return-back or not, I’m still happy doing it.”

He added that he encouraged Masterkraft to focus on music with him, predicting that within six months, things would turn around. According to him, success came even sooner when they landed a major opportunity that allowed them to relocate from the ghetto to Lekki.

CDQ rose to stardom in 2016 following the release of his breakout hit “Indomie” featuring Masterkraft and Olamide. A remix of the track, which included Davido, gave the rapper even more exposure and fame.
