A Tesla in an Adelaide shopping centre car park has been locked up in a cage after the vehicle overstayed its welcome.

The electric vehicle was put on charge at the Burnside Village car park but then abandoned three weeks ago.

A note was left by centre management and the car was fenced in but some shoppers thought caging the car was a step too far.

“We kindly wish to remind you that this car park is private property and is intended for use by customers during the centre’s trading hours only,” the note said.

“Overnight parking is not permitted, and vehicles left in the car park outside of these hours may be subject to further action.

“We appreciate your support and cooperation in helping us maintain a safe and accessible environment for all centre visitors.”

The centre has told 9News that a business linked to the car’s registration has been notified and intends to collect it soon.

Some shoppers thought the cage for the car was too far.

“There should be adequate signage to say do not leave your car overnight, further action of consequence could arise,” shopper Mike Mundy said.
