“For a long time, and even though we are great friends, they actually banned our Beef” Trump said in a post on Truth Social.

“Now, we are going to sell so much to Australia because this is undeniable and irrefutable Proof that U.S. Beef is the Safest and Best in the entire World.”

The restrictions on US beef coming into Australia had been a point of contention between the two countries, with Trump calling out Australia’s refusal to take US beef exports during his April “Liberation Day” tariff plan.

“Australia bans – and they’re wonderful people, and wonderful everything – but they ban American beef,” he said at the time.

“Yet we imported $US3 billion of Australian beef from them just last year alone.

“They won’t take any of our beef.”

Australia’s ban on US beef exports had been in place for over 20 years after an outbreak of bovine spongiform encephalopathy, or mad cow disease, which can lead to fatal brain disease in humans.

Whilst the blanket ban was lifted in 2019, a ban remained on cattle that had been raised in Canda and Mexico, but slaughtered in and exported from the US.

Employment Minister Amanda Rishworth explained the ban had been lifted after a decade-long review.

“That review has been undertaken and the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry believe that there are the right controls in place in the US to lift that ban,” she told Today on Thursday.

Trump also used his Truth Social post to send a message to other countries that also had restrictions on US beef: “The other Countries that refuse our magnificent Beef are ON NOTICE”.
