Ozzy Osbourne was reportedly aware that “his days were numbered” before his tragic death on Tuesday (July 22), which shocked fans worldwide. The legend died just three weeks after he took to the stage for one last time at his hometown in Birmingham alongside his Black Sabbath bandmates, who reunited for the one and only farewell show earlier this month.

The Prince of Darkness died in their Buckinghamshire mansion “surrounded by his family,” including his wife, Sharon, and three of his six children. Ozzy’s family confirmed his death with an emotional statement following his brave six-year battle with Parkinson’s disease. David Ellefson, the founding member of the rock band Megadeath, who made a solo appearance as part of a tribute super group performance during the farewell concert, shared that the late legend was hyper aware of his impending fate. In the days since, David added that the after-party felt like a “wake” with Ozzy as the main attraction.

During an appearance on Sirius XM Ozzy’s Boneyard all day tribute radio show, he said: “It really felt like this was the celebration of life before this inevitable day that happened right?

“Because Ozzy knew it, right? We’ve seen the videos online. He knew his days were numbered.”

The singer also praised Sharon for ensuring he was able to take part in the show so “the world could say goodbye” to the Prince of Darkness.

As David continued: “And God bless Sharon for just keeping it going and giving him something to look forward to. The fact that he got to say goodbye, the fact that we all got to say goodbye to him.

“Because we knew this day was coming. This isn’t as shocking as it is – we knew it was coming.”

After labelling Ozzy “the Elvis of heavy metal,” the vocalist added: “In my opinion, not trying to be morbid. I’m being celebratory here. We got to have the celebration of life before he passed. I mean, what a beautiful thing.”

The icon’s final gig was hailed as “the greatest heavy metal show ever” and then as a triumphant success by critics and the thousands of concertgoers.

Ozzy’s official curtain call also saw his final act of kindness to the masses as the concert raised £140 million for charity.

Backstage, the Osbourne family shared a heartwarming moment as Ozzy watched his daughter Kelly say yes to her partner Sid Wilson’s proposal.

The emotional moment ended in laughter, as the late rocker, in true Ozzy fashion, joked: “F*** off! You’re not marrying my daughter. “
