California authorities are looking for an 8-month-old girl and her mother who have been missing for more than a week.
Whisper Owen, 36, and Sandra McCarthy were last seen driving from Fresno on July 15. Fresno County police believe they were traveling home in Elk Grove but never arrived, according to SF Gate.
Owen’s mother told KFSN that Owen took her daughter to a doctor’s appointment and visited family. She claimed Owen and her granddaughter left to be with her partner and two other children.
“It wasn’t until Saturday morning that he [Owen’s partner] reached out to us, asked if she was here, asked if he could talk to her and at that point, we instructed him she had left Tuesday night,” Owen’s brother, who filed the missing person reports, told KFSN.
Owen’s mother said it was normal not to hear from her daughter for a few days as she did not have a working phone.
Fresno police said current evidence does not suggest foul play is involved in Owen and McCarthy’s disappearance.
Owen drives a 2006 silver Chevrolet Trailblazer with license plates reading 9LKH008. The vehicle has damage to driver’s side headlight.
Owen was described as standing 5 feet, 6 inches tall, weighing 145 pounds, and having brown hair and blue eyes. McCarthy is 1 foot, 10 inches tall, weighs 17 pounds, and has brown hair and green eyes.
Anyone with information about their whereabouts is asked to call 911.
