Jury hears wife's last words in Colorado dentist poisoning case: 'Why do I hurt?'

CENTENNIAL (KDVR) The brother of the woman who was allegedly murdered by her dentist husband in Aurora, Colorado, took the stand Thursday and told the court about the last moments of her life.

That brother says he traveled to Aurora to try and help his sister, who “crashed” at the hospital not long after they arrived. That brother talked about the moments Angela Craig got so sick in her home that she could barely hold herself up.

Mark Pray said Angela began to deteriorate quickly after he gave her the medicine James Craig had prescribed. Pray says he and his wife came to Aurora from Utah after Angela told them she was concerned and frustrated that she wasn’t getting better.

James Craig, 47, is accused of poisoning his wife, Angela, with cyanide and tetrahydrozoline. Craig pleaded not guilty to several charges, including first-degree murder, solicitation to commit murder and solicitation to commit perjury.

Prosecutors say she was poisoned by the dentist who was having extramarital affairs.

Pray said James had told him to give Angela an antibiotic called Clindamycin, which he had allegedly prescribed.

“I went in her bedroom. I gave her the medication,” Pray said. “Within 20 to 25 minutes, she couldn’t even hold herself up. I carried her out to the car and took her to the emergency room.”

After Angela was declared brain dead, Pray said he texted James Craig, telling him, “I think they view this as a suspicious death.”

Pray told the jury that James Craig said Angela’s last words were, “Why do I hurt?”

When the family went to the Craig home in Aurora, Pray said there were police everywhere.

One of Angela’s sisters also testified, saying she never knew her sister to be suicidal and that she loved life and her kids.  Defense attorneys said Angela had said she was “broken” because of him and that James Craig had told her “he kept cheating and she deserved better.”

Prosecutors also called another witness to the stand, a woman who said she, too, had a relationship with Craig after meeting him on a dating website where women could meet sugar daddies.

Prosecution has spent over a week calling on witnesses to take the stand. So far, several investigators, former coworkers, romantic affairs and other witnesses have taken the stand.

On Wednesday, a former cellmate of Craig’s testified that Craig had asked him to kill an Aurora Police Department investigator working on the case. A woman also testified Craig told her he and his wife were having problems and that he said, “he knew how he could get away with murder.”
