An 18-year-old man has been granted bail after an incident which allegedly left a Good Samaritan with stab wounds after trying to break up a fight in Brisbane‘s Fortitude Valley.

Lilian Makusa was on a fun night out in the city’s party precinct when he was stabbed in the chest and shoulder about 3.30am yesterday.

The 21-year-old has spoken from his hospital bed, recounting the moment he knew he was seriously hurt.

“When I see all of the blood on my body, yeah it was a little bit scary,” he said.

Makusa is a French backpacker who has been in Australia for eight months on a working holiday visa.

He said he had been trying to break up a fight when he allegedly became a target himself.

“I push him back, and when I push him, he fell on the floor and he stabbed me three times,” Makusa claims.

Makusa’s accused 18-year-old attackers, Jack Pereria and Jackson Martin, were arrested and charged after allegedly taking off.

The pair appeared in the Brisbane Magistrates Court this morning.

Martin was granted bail after the court heard he was not the alleged stabber, but was involved in the fight.

The court heard Pereria allegedly “produced a small knife from his pants and struck the victim twice in the chest and once in the shoulder”.

Pereria did not apply for bail today.

His family wept inside the courtroom as he was remanded in custody, with his matter to return to court on August 25.

Makusa was due to return to France next week but that has now been delayed.

He is expected to remain in hospital for at least another five days.

“I know they are 18, they are young, but I hope police know where they are,” he said.
