SAN DIEGO — Each year, a wave of animated series descends on San Diego for Comic-Con, and this year was no different, with the cast of “American Dad” showing up to celebrate alongside their loyal fans.

As the long-running show inches closer to its 400th episode, the cast reflected on its longevity and the fan support that’s kept it going strong.

“It’s a great affirmation that this show is better than it’s ever been,” said Dee Bradley Baker, who voices Klaus. “It’s taken great creative risks – and it’s funny.”

Series writer and co-creator Matt Weitzman admitted he never imagined the show would last this long.

“I never, ever thought that it was going to happen,” he said. “We’re just grateful we get to keep making it.”

Fans were just as excited to show their appreciation. Jay Henson traveled from Alberta, Canada, to meet the cast and get his “American Dad” T-shirt signed.

“I got all the voices and writers to sign it,” Henson said. “I’m going to frame this and put it in my shrine. I love it.”

While the cast was clearly enjoying the fan love, it begs the question: what would their characters think of all the Comic-Con excitement?

“Klaus wants to know where his Funko Pop is,” Baker joked in character. “There’s no Funko Pop! Where am I here? Roger, let’s start up a new company.”

Scott Grimes, who voices Steve Smith, had a simpler take: “The Smith family would think it’s awesome!”

“American Dad” is streaming on Hulu and on Hulu on Disney+.

The Walt Disney Company is the parent company of Disney+, Hulu and this ABC station.
