PALM COAST, Fla. – Deputies removed some 100 cats from an elderly Palm Coast woman’s home following a residential welfare check and now the Flagler Humane Society is working to find them new homes.

According to a news release by the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office, the deputies didn’t find any signs of animal neglect or abuse during the visit on Tuesday but determined the living conditions were unsafe.

Officials said deputies removed 98 cats initially. Then, one of the cats gave birth after being brought in, increasing the total to more than 100, the release said.

Teams worked from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday, removing the cats and transporting them to safety, the release stated.

The Flagler Humane Society welcomed the cats to its facility, stayed open late and transformed its education room into a “temporary haven with crates, food and litter,” officials said.

To help get the cats adopted, the humane society is hosting a Coffee with Cats” adoption event on Aug. 17 from 12-3 p.m., with cat adoptions scheduled to be half price, according to the release.

Officials said the rescued cats are not currently ready for adoption and it’s recommended adopters wait for the Aug. 17 event.

The Coffee with Cats! event will be held at the shelter on 1 Shelter Drive in Palm Coast. Admission is free, but donations are appreciated. Find more information on the Flagler Humane Society events page.
