The shooting led Jacksonville police to arrest a group of friends which led them to solve 11 cases, according to a release.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A shooting that killed a dog last August on Park Avenue has led to the arrests of six individuals linked to a group responsible for multiple gun-related crimes, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

According to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, District 6 officers responded to a shooting in August of last year on Park Avenue, where suspects opened fire on an occupied home. A Great Dane named Naomi was fatally shot on the front porch. Detectives recovered shell casings at the scene and, with help from the National Integrated Ballistic Information Network (NIBIN), identified two suspects: 19-year-old Logan Kurlin and 22-year-old Nathan Kizer, JSO said. A stolen Hyundai Sonata was also recovered during the investigation.

Interviews with Kurlin and Kizer led investigators to uncover a broader network of individuals allegedly involved in multiple shootings—some of which had never been reported, JSO said. Authorities say their work ultimately cleared 11 separate shooting-related cases, all linked to the same group of friends.

As a result, six individuals are now facing charges: Logan Kurlin, 29, Nathan Kizer, 22, Louis Gill, 23 and Jeremiah Simmonds, 18.

They have each been charged with seven counts of attempted murder, in addition to several lesser charges, including the killing of Naomi.

Two others, Darrell Brill, 21, and Hannah Johnson, 16, are charged with two counts of attempted murder and related offenses.

The investigation is ongoing, and authorities say more charges could be filed as they continue to examine evidence from the linked shootings.
