The victim who died is a 27-year-old male. One other victim, an 18-year-old male, is in critical condition.

ATLANTA — A chaotic and violent night unfolded along Edgewood Avenue in Atlanta from Sunday into Monday morning, as police responded to a shooting involving 11 victims, one of them killed.

The victim who was killed was identified as 27-year-old Santos J. Wyatt.  Atlanta Police Chief Darin Schierbaum said at a mid-morning press conference that one of the other victims, an 18-year-old male, is in critical condition. The 10 surviving victims range from 18-29 in age.

Police believe the shooting began at a streetcar stop around 1:30 a.m. outside 349 Edgewood Ave., in the middle of the popular nightlife strip in the Sweet Auburn neighborhood. He said police are searching for three males and a female they believe approached a large group gathered at the stop, leading to the exchange of gunfire.

Chief Schierbaum added that an unspecified number of firearms and 34 shell casings were recovered at the scene. Chief Schierbaum said investigators are interviewing witnesses and a pulling video from cameras in the area. He said police believe witnesses likely have video that could help solve the case.

Mayor Andre Dickens said most of the shootings result from a prevalent access to guns and anger that escalates to shooting rather than resolving conflicts without violence.

From Friday through Monday morning, the chief said 29 people were shot in 12 incidents, and two were killed. Since Thursday,  the number jumps to 37 people shot and 5 killed.

Despite the weekend of violence, the number of homicides have declined so far this year.  In 2025, there have been 57 homicides, compared with 76 at the same time last year.  In 2022, there were 92, Schierbaum said.

Police are asking anyone who witnessed what happened to call 404-577-TIPS.

Atlanta Police Capt. Jeff Childers could not confirm to reporters around 5:30 a.m. if there were multiple shooters, but said it was believed the suspect or suspects would have been on foot.

One woman who lives in the area spoke to 11Alive’s Dan Kennedy and, adding to the uncertainty surrounding incident, said she saw a group of people armed with guns and wearing backpacks late Sunday night standing in the middle of the street looking inside cars as they drove down Edgewood.

There were at least two other shooting scenes on Edgewood Sunday, though Capt. Childers said they’re not believed to have been related. In one, a person was found shot multiple times at Edgewood and Hilliard Street in what police described as a parking dispute. That person was taken to Grady in stable condition.

Another person was shot in the ankle at some point at Edgewood and Boulevard, and that victim was also stable.

There is additionally a death investigation occurring not far from Edgewood at the Freedom Parkway ramp connecting to I-75/85. There was no indication that had any connection to the mass shooting.
