Travis Kelce helps break up Chiefs training camp fight

Travis Kelce aimed to stop “Cruel Summer” from starting at the Chiefs training camp when he intervened in a scuffle between lineman Josh Simmons and defensive end Ashton Gillotte.

According to a video shared by KCTV, tensions rose between the two players after a drill on Tuesday morning, leading to an exchange of punches and shoves.

The disagreement lasted just a few seconds as teammates quickly intervened, and the situation ended when Kelce stepped in, prompting the players to separate.

Chiefs coach Andy Reid was also quick on the scene to cool things down, KCTV reported.

Fights have become somewhat of a regular occurrence during training camps, with the Cowboys and Falcons getting into separate altercations.

In another camp, Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel sternly warned his players against any extracurricular activities during practice.

“We want to be able to practice the same way we have to play, which is physical and within the rules. Have a great play demeanor, finish through the whistle and all those things,” he said Monday.

“If you throw a punch, you’re going to get kicked out of the game, which is going to cost the team. So I don’t anticipate any of that.”

Kelce, a veteran and one of the team’s best-known players off the field, is a leader inside the Chiefs’ locker room.

Following the loss to the Eagles in the Super Bowl 2025, Kelce said on his “New Heights” podcast that he felt like he “wasn’t the best leader that I could be in motivating my guys and keeping my guys calm, cool, collected.”

“I put a lot of that on myself as the guy that’s been in the building for 12 years and seen a lot of football and actually seen a situation just like this in the Super Bowl,” he said.
