JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (WJHL) — The Washington County/Johnson City Animal Shelter is partnering with the ASPCA’s “Rescue Effect Campaign” to highlight the importance of pet adoption.

Through the campaign, the ASPCA is reportedly providing $2 million in grants to cover adoption fees and support operations at multiple shelters and rescue groups in the United States.

“So far this year, our shelter has taken in over 2,300 animals in need of care, safety, and second chances,” Shelter Director Tammy Davis said in a news release. “Despite the growing demand for our services, we receive only 29.5% of our funding from government sources. The rest depends on the generosity of our community to keep our doors open and our animals safe.”

The shelter will host scheduled adoption events with zero fees in August, September and October.

The events will take place Aug. 2 and Aug. 16 from 1-6 p.m. at the shelter (3411 North Roan Street, Johnson City).

Additional adoption events will be announced at a later date.
