TOLONO, Ill. (WCIA) — The Tolono Fire Protection District is putting a grant — awarded by the Office of the Illinois State Fire Marshal — to good use.

On Tuesday, the fire protection district announced that they are upgrading their tools and bringing in new tech.

In March, WCIA reported that nearly 180 fire departments and EMS providers would receive a share of $4 million in grant money from the State Fire Marshal. The money is to help fire departments around the state purchase equipment that they otherwise wouldn’t be able to afford. The Tolono Fire Protection District received $26,000.

Tolono purchased battery powered extraction equipment with their portion of the grant money. Extraction equipment is a part of every rescue team’s tools, and it’s meant to cut through materials and get into tight spaces.

“These tools will be a huge benefit to our members as well as those we serve. It has been a long time since we have upgraded our extrication equipment. Tolono FPD is grateful to have received this award. Thank You to Deputy Chief Hayden for his hard work on this grant,” the fire protection district wrote in a post on Facebook.
