BRISTOL, Va. (WJHL) — Two people are dead after an apparent electrocution in Bristol, Virginia on Thursday.

According to a news release from the Bristol Virginia Police Department (BVPD), officers responded to a report of two unresponsive men lying on the sidewalk at the intersection of Sycamore and Johnson Street.

Both were pronounced dead at an area hospital and appear to have been electrocuted, the BVPD stated.

The BVPD stated preliminary investigation indicates the men had been performing roof work on a Johnson Street home earlier in the week.

“On the morning of the incident, while attempting to position a ladder, it appears they either made direct contact with or came into close proximity to active power lines, resulting in an electrical arc,” the police department stated.

Identifications of the men are being withheld pending notification of next of kin. An investigation remains ongoing.
