PINELLAS PARK, Fla. (WFLA) — A Tampa Bay area animal rescue lost its air conditioning unit in one of its sheds housing dog kennels. The rescue is now asking for the community’s support.

Angela Schab showed 8 On Your Side the shed at FLUFF Animal Rescue in Pinellas Park. Nine dogs had to bear some heat Thursday morning.

“So I came in and I was like, ‘It’s a little warm in here,’ did a touch and there was really no air coming out,” Schab said.

She said she put in a few phone calls, and at the time didn’t have luck. So they focused on getting the animals out.

“They were panting. It was actually cooler outside in the shade than it was in the shed, so we also spent more time outside today in our backyard,” Schab said.

The rescue put out a plea to the community to foster the animals, saying it’s unclear how long it’s going to take to get the AC fixed or replaced.

“I immediately shot an email to the foster coordinator wanting to know how I could help,” said Jon Shepherd, who adopted a dog from FLUFF in January. “We already had them outside. They’re going to tire me out.”

The rescue’s phones have been ringing all day. More people came in to foster pets for the weekend. Schab said there’s a company coming to check out the unit, who told 8 On Your Side, it’s going to have to be replaced.

“We have put a plea out for some donations, and many have graciously already donated. So we’re ready to take that step if we can’t get it fixed today,” Schab said.

Meanwhile, the pups are on a weekend getaway until their temporary home cools off.
