A sergeant with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said the driver’s view was “obstructed,” so he “had to make a wide-sweeping right turn.”

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A man died early Friday morning in the parking lot of a warehouse facility in Jacksonville’s Grand Park area after being run over by a “large” truck that had just dropped off a dumpster, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

JSO Sergeant Hungerford told First Coast News the crash occurred at approximately 6:38 a.m.

Hungerford said the truck was leaving the property when the crash happened. Although he did not release the identities of those involved, Hungerford identified the victim as a man in his mid-60s and the driver as a man in his mid-50s.

After the crash, Hungerford said members of the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department responded to the scene and took the victim to a local hospital where he died shortly after arriving.

“We are not disclosing the company just yet, we’re still in the preliminary pieces of the puzzle,” Hungerford said. “And we haven’t made next of kin notification, so we are not gonna release the [name of the] warehouse just yet.”

Hungerford went on to say that the driver’s view was “obstructed,” so he “had to make a wide-sweeping right turn.”

“And from what we have at the scene, from what witnesses told us, it appears that the rear wheels trailed over a worker who was in that area taking account of inventory, possibly bent over and wasn’t seen,” Hungerford said.

When asked if charges are pending for the driver, Hungerford said: “Too early to tell, too early to tell. The detectives are reviewing a bunch of information, and then we’ll present the findings to the State Attorney’s Office. We’ll make a recommendation to the State Attorney’s Office, and the state attorney will determine if charges are to be levy.”

This crash marks as the 92nd traffic fatality in Duval County in 2025, Hungerford said.
