AUGUSTA, Ga. () – The staff and athletes at C&C Gymnastics are celebrating one of their own.

“Robyn Wilson, she’s one of our gymnasts who’s been here for like six years but she got, received a scholarship at Arizona State University and one of the things that really helped out was her vault to get noticed,” said Vault Coach, Dennis Hayden.

Recently, Robyn’s vault got her a lot of attention at Nationals.

“Nationals, she did a fantastic job on vault and was second in that event. There was a tie but the two had the same score and then there was first place, so she was basically second place in the nation,” said Hayden

After Nationals, Robyn couldn’t have dreamed what would happen next.

“After Nationals, I started getting more emails from colleges, because for a long time it had really been mostly silent, which was kind of stressful. But after Nationals, I started getting emails from some smaller schools, then early June I got a message from Kristin at ASU on Instagram and after that kept up with ASU focused on working my vault more, working on things they wanted to see more of and then I went and visited and the weekend that I went to visit they offered me and I accepted the next morning,” said Wilson.

All of Robyn Wilson’s hard work is paying off, she’s getting a full ride to Arizona State University.

“It takes a long time and you might say a lifetime to get to the point where you are good enough to have these colleges, and get noticed by them, and they train so hard. These are training up to 22, 25 hours a week. Not being able to do all the things that other kids do, and it’s really to get a scholarship and to go do the sport that they love in college,” said Hayden.

And she’s thankful for everything that she’s learned from her friends and family at C&C Gymnastics.

“I’ve actually lived in Augusta my entire life, I’ve never lived anywhere else. This is about to be a really interesting journey for me but I’ve been at C&C for the past five or six years, I was at a different gym before that but Candice has been my coach since I was six, so coming back here, moving to this gym where I had the most support possible and coaches that understand me so well, it’s been such a really cool journey and it’s going to be really hard to have to leave that. I’m so excited to move on and go to ASU but to leave this family that I’ve created here is…it’s a lot,” said Wilson.

And she hopes her story inspires others.

“I hope that girls can see that sometimes things don’t go the way you think they’re going to go, I thought I was going to commit to a school two years ago and I hadn’t even talked to anyone, but God always has a plan and if you’re supposed to be somewhere, then you going to get there, so just hold on tight.”
