Frank West faces a DUI causing serious bodily injury charge in connection to the crash that happened near SW Bascom Norris Drive and SW Tomoka Terrace.

LAKE CITY, Fla. — A 68-year-old man was arrested in Lake City late Thursday after being involved in a crash that left a pedestrian seriously injured, according to the Lake City Police Department.

Frank West faces a charge of DUI causing serious bodily injury, LCPD told First Coast News.

Police said at approximately 10:15 p.m., officers responded to the crash near the intersection of Southwest Bascom Norris Drive and Southwest Tomoka Terrace.

When they arrived, they found the pedestrian whose identity was not released, suffering from serious injuries, LCPD said.

Police said West was driving a 2010 Cadillac CTS and hit the pedestrian while they were walking along Southwest Bascom Norris Drive.

According to LCPD, the pedestrian was treated on scene, then was later taken to UF Health Shands in Gainesville by first responders for further medical care.

LCPD said investigators noticed damage to the Cadillac’s front right side and windshield, and “embedded hair.”

“Officers also observed the driver of the Cadillac, Frank Daniel West, displaying signs of impairment, including glossy eyes and lethargic movements,” LCPD said in a release. “Based on the crash dynamics, physical evidence, and the driver’s behavior, officers deployed probable cause to believe that West impaired at the time of the crash.”

LCPD further told First Coast News that West was arrested, taken to a local hospital for “medical clearance,” then was booked into the Columbia County Detention Center.

“Lake City Police Department is committed to thoroughly investigating all crashes—especially those involving serious injuries,” Lake City Police Chief Gerald Butler said in the release. “We will continue to follow the evidence wherever it leads to ensure accountability and public safety.”
