SAVANNAH, Ga. () — With football season quickly approaching, high school football programs throughout the state of Georgia are putting their teams to the test.

Two key matchups were highlighted during Friday night’s scrimmages: Savannah High School vs. Islands High School and Bethesda Academy vs. Frederica Academy.

The Islands Sharks protected their home turf at the Islands High School Stadium despite competing in a scripted scrimmage that included no scores or downs.

Defensive end Michael Cooler stood out for the Sharks defensively, pressuring Savannah High’s quarterbacks all night.

On offense, two upcoming seniors connected in the endzone. Quarterback Chet Bachman was able to find wide receiver Jayson Padgett for a quick redzone score.

Running back Jackson Tripp also added a two-yard touchdown run.

Similarly, Bethesda Academy also protected their home turf in their matchup vs. Frederica Academy. The Blazers gained momentum after a fourth down stop against Frederica in the second quarter.

Later in the quarter, the Blazers capitalized on that momentum for their first touchdown drive. They began the drive with an explosive gain on a screen pass that led to a touchdown run shortly after.

The Blazers scored again later in the half to win 13-0.

GHSA football officially begins in two weeks, with games set to start on Aug. 15.
