SAVANNAH, Ga. () — Saturday brought a round of storms across a lot of the Coastal Empire & Lowcountry.

Flooding rain was the primary impact with several reports of stalled and flooded vehicles across Chatham County. A flash flood warning was issued for Savannah between roughly 5 and 7 PM.

Remaining storms will give way to light to moderate rain with rumbles of thunder into portions of the overnight hours. Rain will wind down as the night progresses.

Sunday Forecast

Sunday will bring a mild start to the day with temperatures in the low-to-mid 70s. Being on the cooler side of the front with winds out of the northeast will keep temperatures several degrees below average for highs.

Another round of rain and storms is likely for much of the area. Any storms will bring very heavy rainfall, frequent lightning, and the potential for strong wind gusts. Keep an eye to the sky but know that the day will not be a washout.

Looking Ahead

Monday features a cool start with northeast winds providing mild air. More sunshine will break out and there will be the chance for typical afternoon storms.

The rest of the week will feature a slow return to near-average temperatures and daily storm chances. No extreme heat is expected for the workweek!

Tropics

The tropics feature an area of low pressure developing off the Carolina Coast. The system is moving eastward and will pull away from our area.

Elevated offshore winds coupled with wave action will lead to marine concerns and potential beach hazards including rip currents and rough surf for the next few days.

A tropical wave moving off the coast of Africa the next couple of days has a 20% chance of developing.

This system is very far from the United States so there is a lot of time to track it. The environment continues to feature dry air and Saharan Dust which will limit this system for a while.

Tropical waves will continue to moisten up the environment and signals are pointing to hurricane season waking up by the middle of the month.
