A couple from Pennsylvania is accused of forcing their son to reside in an outdoor shed for several months, only discovered after the father allegedly attempted to strangle the boy, police reported.

According to local news source WGAL, based on police information, Darly, 41, and Grace Sensenig, 42, expelled their 16-year-old son from their home in Reinholds. They made him live in a wooden shed on their rural property starting mid-March as a form of punishment for what they termed “inappropriate behaviors.”

The shed lacked running water, compelling the teen to relieve himself outside and use a hose for drinking. His parents permitted him to shower indoors only once a week, authorities stated.

The teen was forced to “use money earned from his part-time job to pay for food,” Law and Crime reported, citing the Ephrata Police Department.

Officers from the EPD showed up to the Lancaster County house last Wednesday when the boy called 911 on his dad, who allegedly attacked him when he refused to leave the house to go back to the decrepit digs, according to WGAL.

Cops said Daryl Sensenig tackled his son and throttled his neck with both hands after the argument that afternoon.

The boy was taken into the protection of extended family, according to reports.

Both parents were taken into custody at the home and face charges of endangering the welfare of children.

Daryl faces an additional charge of simple assault.

The couple was released on a $30,000 bond, local outlets reported.
