LOS ANGELES — Two people were killed and six others injured in a shooting in downtown Los Angeles following an unofficial after-party for the Hard Summer music festival, authorities said.

The mass shooting happened around 1 a.m. Monday in the area of 14th and Paloma streets, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. There were reportedly multiple parties taking place in the area at that time.

LAPD officers were on patrol in area around 11 p.m. Sunday when they saw someone going into what they believe was an unauthorized party.

More than 50 people were said to be at that party, which officers then shut down and cleared out. One person was arrested for being in possession of a gun.

A few hours later, police responded to a shots fired call in the same area and found eight people struck by gunfire.

Details about what exactly happened were limited, but a man died at the scene and a woman was taken to the hospital where she later died.

Six others were injured in the shooting, two of them in critical condition. Police said some were transported to the hospital by ambulance and others self-transported.

The shooting happened in the same area as a party advertised online as an unofficial after-party following the Hard Summer Summer music festival in Inglewood, California. Organizers for that after-party said the shooting happened a few blocks from their event, which they said was peaceful.

A motive for the shooting has not been determined. It’s unclear if anybody has been arrested.

This is a developing story. Please check back for updates.
