Jenna Bush Hager “cornered” guest host Matt Rogers on Today With Jenna & Friends after the comedian recently name dropped his celebrity crush.

Bush Hager seized the opportunity to set Rogers up on a date bright and early during Monday’s broadcast of Today. The show kicked off with a clip of Rogers appearing on Hot Ones with Bowen Yang in which he was challenged to either eat a death wing or name his celebrity crush.

Rogers decided to “risk it.”

“Jonathan Groff. I’ve always been interested. I think we should have a drink,” he says in the clip.

Rogers was mortified that Bush Hager shared the clip on Today. “You can’t elevate it like this because now it’s gonna become a real thing!” he told Bush Hager as he covered his face.

But Bush Hager reminded him to have some hope.

“Why not? Shoot your shot. Remember when Travis Kelce asked Taylor Swift out via a friendship bracelet on a podcast?” she asked.

When Rogers asked if she thought he and Groff could be “the gay version of that,” Bush Hager replied, “Neither one of you are an athlete or a pop star, but yes, that’s the gay version of this.”

Later, Bush Hager even invited Groff onto the show so he could meet Rogers in person. “You are crazy!” Rogers told her.

“It’d be so fun! I think you guys would be perfect together. I’m envisioning it,” she said. “I loved him in Hamilton. I went and saw it and he was really nice to my mom. He’s really good with moms and I know your mom’s really close you.”

Rogers made it very clear that he’s still “interested” in getting a drink with Groff. But he could not get over the embarrassment of being “cornered” on Today by Bush Hager.

“I can’t be on television doing this!” he said. “And the thing is, it’s live and that’s why this is must-see TV because you might just see me cornered by JBH!”
