Clay County Sheriff’s deputies said the shooting happened in the area of Silver Point and County Road 220 in Middleburg.

MIDDLEBURG, Fla. — A man and woman are dead early Monday morning after Clay County Sheriff Michelle Cook said their 14-year-old son shot them in Middleburg.

The Sheriff’s Office posted on Facebook around 6 a.m. Monday that deputies were responding to the scene at Silver Point and County Road 220 in Middleburg.

Cook said the call first came in just after midnight Monday from the 14-year-old, identified as Trevor Lee, saying he just killed his parents and was surrendering himself at a church, where deputies took him into custody.

Deputies arrived to the home and found a man and woman inside, identified as 44-year-old David Lee and 45-year-old Brandi Smith, both dead from gunshot wounds, Cook said.

The sheriff said their preliminary investigation has found the shooting stemmed from an argument the teen had with his parents Sunday night, and there’s no further threat to the community. Cook said Lee appears to have shot his parents with their gun, leaving it at the scene.

“We do want to extend our deepest sympathies to the family, the friends, and all of those who are affected by this heartbreaking incident,” Cook said. “We would like to ask anyone in the community that may have some information on Trevor Lee or his parents to please reach out to us at (904) 264-6512.”

Cook said investigators are currently looking into Trevor Lee’s history of mental health and school. He’s now charged with two counts of second-degree murder.

The investigation is still ongoing, and Cook said there’s no further threat to the community.
