Erik Menendez, who along with his brother was convicted of the 1989 killings of their parents, is now back in prison after being hospitalized.

“We can confirm Erik Menendez is at Richard J. Donovan Correctional Facility,” the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation told following Erik’s transfer back to prison.

On May 13, the siblings were resentenced by a judge from life without parole, to 50 years to life, making them immediately eligible for parole.

During the resentencing hearing, Erik admitted the seriousness of the crimes, calling them “cruel and vicious” and adding that he was “directly responsible for it all,” according to NBC News.

The judge ruled that the brothers no longer posed an “unreasonable risk” if they were let out of prison.

What did the Menendez brothers do?

The Menendez brothers were convicted in 1996 of the first-degree shotgun murders of their parents, Mary Louise “Kitty” and José Menendez, inside their Beverly Hills home on August 20, 1989.

The brothers have consistently claimed they acted out of fear, alleging years of sexual abuse by their father and threats of death if they ever spoke out.

Prosecutors argued that the killings were driven by greed, pointing to the brothers’ extravagant spending in the months following the murders.
