In yet another blow to the Net Zero crusader, more adults say they’d rather seek advice from money-saving guru Martin Lewis, heating engineers, or even their GP on energy bills than turn to bungling Red Ed.

Those who backed Reform in the 2024 election have the strongest distrust for the Energy Secretary, with a staggering -86 per cent rating.

Even Labour voters aren’t sold on him, with a net negative confidence level of -16 per cent.

Meanwhile, just 12 per cent of the public think carbon emission concerns should trump keeping costs down when it comes to gas and electricity.

Mike Foster, CEO of the Energy and Utilities Alliance, said: “Energy bills are at the heart of the recent cost of living increases; they matter to people far more than winning the race to be green.

“Getting to net zero is admirable but families need to be able to put food on the table and clothe their kids first.

“Politicians who understand this will win the race to the keys of No.10.”

Reform Deputy Leader Richard Tice said: “Of course nobody trusts Red Ed.

“His lunatic net zero obsession is sending energy bills through the roof despite his many promises to bring them down.

“Reform will slash net zero commitments, expand oil drilling, invest in modular nuclear reactors, and create jobs across the energy sector.”

A Department for Net Zero spokesperson said: “The vast majority of the British public support our commitment to renewable energy, which will get us off the rollercoaster of fossil fuel markets controlled by dictators and replace that with clean homegrown power we control.

“That is how we can protect family finances and our national finances.”
