14-year-old Trevor Lee was arrested and charged with two counts of second-degree murder after deputies said he shot and killed his parents Monday.

CLAY COUNTY, Fla — New details into a shocking murder in Middleburg were released by Clay County Sheriff’s deputies Tuesday, shedding light into the moments deputies say 14-year-old Trevor Lee admitted on a 911 call to shooting and killing his parents Monday morning.

Audio from Lee’s 911 call was released Tuesday afternoon by Clay County deputies, along with his mugshot and arrest report. The contents of the call are heavily redacted due to the ongoing murder investigation.

Lee is charged with two counts of second-degree murder in the death of his parents. Clay County Sheriff Michelle Cook said Lee called 911 shortly after midnight Monday, saying he shot and killed his parents at their Middleburg home, before going to a nearby church.

In the recording, Lee is heard telling the 911 operator he threw his backpack away from him, emptied his pockets, and was waiting for police in the “middle” of the church, saying he needed to pray.

He then asks the 911 operator to pray for him.

“I will definitely be praying for you, son,” the 911 operator is heard saying in response.

The 911 operator holds a conversation with Lee for the next 10 minutes, almost entirely redacted due to the investigation. The 911 operator then tells Lee to tell the responding officers exactly what happened.

Lee then tells the operator that he tried to stop a police car and tell them what happened. The operator tells Lee that police are nearby, and he needs to keep his hands raised.

A sheriff’s deputy is then heard approaching Lee, taking him into custody.

Deputies arrived at Lee’s Middleburg home shortly after the call was placed. Inside, they found a man and woman, identified as 44-year-old David Lee and 45-year-old Brandi Smith, both dead from gunshot wounds.

The police report released by deputies Tuesday said deputies found David Lee and Smith in their bedroom with multiple gunshot wounds, finding several spent shell casings in the room.

The sheriff said their preliminary investigation has found the shooting stemmed from an argument the teen had with his parents Sunday night. Cook said Lee appears to have shot his parents with their gun, leaving it at the scene.

The police report said Lee was taken into custody at Cross Pointe Church on Fleming Island around 3:48 a.m. Monday.

“We do want to extend our deepest sympathies to the family, the friends, and all of those who are affected by this heartbreaking incident,” Cook said. “We would like to ask anyone in the community that may have some information on Trevor Lee or his parents to please reach out to us at (904) 264-6512.”

Cook said investigators are currently looking into Trevor Lee’s history of mental health and school.
