Hip-hop mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs remains in custody at Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center pending his October 3 sentencing. Reports suggest he enrolled in multiple rehabilitative programs aimed at addressing his history of substance abuse and domestic violence. His lead attorney, Marc Agnifilo, spoke about Combs receiving therapy behind bars. Agnifilo also explained how he tried to get Combs into a batterers’ intervention program before the mogul’s arrest.

Sean “Diddy” Combs’ lead attorney, Marc Agnifilo, spilled to Court TV that Combs sought counseling ahead of his arrest in September 2024.
“Mr. Combs is seeking counseling, was seeking counseling, for domestic violence before he was arrested,” Agnifilo explained. “He was attending a program here in New York. And we really wish he could’ve stayed in that program. But the federal government arrested him, and then he was in jail, and he couldn’t continue with this very outstanding program, which I believe he’ll come back to if he’s released.”
Agnifilo noted that Combs would benefit from “treatment programs, self-awareness, therapy,” instead of a lengthy prison sentence. “I think this is what Mr. Combs needs rather than extended time in prison,” he said.
The attorney added that he tried to get Combs into a batterers’ intervention program (BIP) before the mogul’s arrest. A BIP is a rehabilitation program offered to those convicted of certain types of domestic violence offenses.
“I tried very hard to get him into a batterers’ program in April and May before he got arrested,” Agnifilo explained. “I think, because of his notoriety, a lot of these programs didn’t want to take him.” He noted that Combs’ ex-girlfriend, who testified as Jane, assisted in writing a letter to get him into one of these programs.
“At the end of the day, he didn’t get into the program that I think the letter was directed to, but we got him into another program,” Agnifilo clarified. “And he did start therapy and counseling in that program and did that for several weeks before he was arrested.”
As for the programs at the MDC, Agnifilo said they aren’t “well-established.” However, Combs still benefits from therapy while behind bars.
