The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office released footage of the July shooting where officers fatally shot Lawrence Sullivan.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office released body-worn camera footage of the fatal officer-involved shooting that killed 71-year-old Lawrence Sullivan on July 19.

The video shows the moment Sullivan was shot by officers on Beach Boulevard near the I-295 northbound ramp.

According to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, Sullivan ran a red light and crashed into another vehicle carrying a mother and her children.

They were not seriously hurt.

Police say that after the crash, Sullivan gave the mother a “thumbs up” gesture, then got out of his car with a gun.

The suspect then told first responders that he wanted to shoot himself.

Police say Sullivan walked to a construction trailer with his gun, and officers tried to approach him to take him into custody.

During that time, police say a bicyclist was in the area, and Sullivan began walking toward a crowd.

That’s when officers fired at Sullivan, and he later died at the hospital.
