The entertainment world is mourning the loss of Jane Etta Pitt, the beloved mother of Hollywood icon Brad Pitt, who passed away at 84.

The news was shared by her granddaughter, Sydney Pitt, through a touching Instagram post that celebrated Jane’s warmth, compassion, and profound love for her family.

Jane Etta Pitt’s Life and Legacy

Jane, a former school counselor, was celebrated for her steadfast dedication to her family. She brought up three children—Brad Pitt, Doug, and Julie—alongside her husband, William Alvin Pitt, in Springfield, Missouri. Although her son found fame, she maintained a private life but would sometimes accompany him to public events, such as the 2012 Oscars.

Her granddaughter Sydney’s emotional post captured Jane’s spirit:

“My dear Grammy, Jane Etta, we were not ready to say goodbye yet, but knowing you are now free to sing, dance, and paint again brings some comfort. If you knew Grammy, you knew she had an enormous heart. She cared deeply for everyone and everything without hesitation.”

Sydney also shared cherished memories, including yearly “special days” Jane organized for her grandchildren, filled with banana splits for breakfast, board games, and mini-golf.

Brad Pitt’s Close Bond with His Mother

Brad often spoke fondly of his parents, crediting them for his work ethic and values. In a 2019 interview, he reflected on his father’s influence, saying:

“He had grown up in extreme hardship and poverty, always dead set on giving me a better life than he had—and he did it.”

Just weeks before her passing, Brad gave his mom a sweet shoutout on the Today show, saying:

“I gotta say hi to my mom because she watches you every morning. To Jane Pitt! Love you, Mom.”

Family Struggles Amid Loss

While Jane remained close to Brad, her relationship with his six children (with ex-wife Angelina Jolie) grew distant following their divorce. Reports suggest the kids did not attend Jane’s 80th birthday celebration in 2020, a sign of the ongoing family rift.

Despite personal challenges, Jane’s legacy as a compassionate matriarch endures. As Sydney wrote:

“She was love in its purest form. We were truly blessed to have her.”
