WASHINGTON (NEXSTAR) – Federal officials are pledging support to investigate a shooting that left five soldiers injured at a military site in Georgia Wednesday.

The White House and Georgia lawmakers are offering prayers for the victims.

President Donald Trump is calling for the shooter to be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

Brigadier General John Lubas says the victims are all in stable condition and expected to recover.

“I would also like to thank the brave soldiers who immediately intervened and subdued the shooter. These soldiers without a doubt prevented further casualties,” said Lubas.

The suspect is 28-year-old Quornelius Radford, an active-duty army sergeant, who joined the Army as a logistical specialist in 2018.

He is now in custody.

“The shooting occurred at the soldier’s place of work. It did involve his coworkers we’re still not certain about the motivations,” said Lubas.

President Trump weighed in Wednesday.

“We’re not going to forget what happened. We’re going to take very good care of this person that did this, horrible person,” said Trump.

The president said the Army criminal investigation division is onsite.

The FBI is also involved.

Georgia Congressman Buddy Carter is calling for a thorough investigation.

“When they hurt, we hurt. We’re going to make sure that we get the resources to them to protect them, just as they protect us. They put their lives on the line every day,” said Carter.

Military officials did not speculate about a motive.  They did say the shooter used a personal handgun in the attack.
