EDGEFIELD, S.C. () – South Carolina Lieutenant Governor Pamela Evette made an announcement in Edgefield on Thursday about increasing safety for law enforcement officers.

Evette is one of several candidates running for to be governor of the state of South Carolina. She spoke to supporters who gathered at the the Edgefield County Jail and Law Enforcement Center on Aug. 7 about her plans for the office, which includes support for law enforcement.

“They are trying to protect themselves, protect their weapons, look around them and be able to watch what’s going on in front of them,” said Evette. “And he said with the HALO Act, what we’re asking is that when a law enforcement officer or a first responder says back away, that anybody coming up into their space has to back away 25 feet so that they can do their job and not worry about being harmed.”
