The actor rarely spoke in this role, often just staring silently or exchanging looks with others during scenes, but had plenty of funny moments in his 105 episodes.

LOS ANGELES — Jon Miyahara, the actor best known for playing Brett on “Superstore,” has died. He was 83.

Miyahara appeared in nearly every episode of the NBC workplace sitcom that ran from 2015 to 2021.

His daughter Pennie Cappasola told PEOPLE that he died Wednesday with his wife, Chiyo, by his side.

Colton Dunn, who played Garrett on the show, posted to Instagram remembering Miyahara.

“(Jon) Miyahara aka Brett from superstore has sadly passed away. John was a really awesome guy and as a performer could speak volumes with just a look,” he wrote. “He was such a memorable part of the Cloud 9 team. It was an honor to know him and work with him. I was lucky enough to meet some of his family and my thoughts are with them. Rest in Peace John. “

Other costars reacted to the news in the comments of his post.

“I’m so sad to hear this news. Many fun days and many fun conversations. Very nice guy,” wrote Michael Bunin, who played Jeff in the show.

“Oh man! He was always so sweet! Rest in peace,” wrote Kelly Stables, who played Kelly in the show.

Miyahara played one of the many employees at a supersized megastore called Cloud 9 which often featured “rabid bargain hunters, riot-causing sales and nap-worthy training sessions,” according to the show’s description.

The actor rarely spoke, often just giving a deadpan stare or exchanging looks with others during comedic scenes, but had plenty of moments in the 105 episodes he appeared in.

According to Deadline, Miyahara briefly reprised the role of Brett in a cameo on NBC’s sitcom “American Auto” that ran from 2021 to 2023 and lasted two seasons. Both sitcoms were created by Justin Spitzer.

Miyahara had no other major acting credits, according to his IMDb page.
