As water poured out of the hole in the water slide, frightened cruise ship guests can be heard shouting from below to make sure no one else was sent down the slide.

WASHINGTON — A passenger on board a Royal Caribbean ship was injured when part of a waterslide broke while they were on it.

The incident happened Thursday on the Icon of the Seas, which is currently the largest cruise ship in the world.

“Our team provided medical care to an adult guest when acrylic glass broke off a water slide as the guest passed through the slide,” a Royal Caribbean spokesperson said in a statement. “The guest is being treated for his injuries. The water slide is closed for the remainder of the sailing pending an investigation.”

The slide, called “Frightening Bolt,” is advertised as being the tallest drop slide at sea, featuring rushing water pushing guests down a plastic tube with transparent acrylic windows, into a pool below.

Video of the slide after the accident shows water gushing out of a bend in the slide onto the deck below. Another angle, after the water was turned off, appears to show a roughly circular hole in the clear acrylic panel, just below a joint holding the slide up.

As water poured out of the hole, guests can be heard shouting from below the slide to make sure the operators didn’t send anyone else.

While some people in the distance can be heard in the video saying the slide passenger fell out, that doesn’t appear to be the case.

As of Friday morning, the extent of the guest’s injuries are still unknown but thankfully, it does not appear the guest fell out of the slide.

Icon of the Seas sails out of Miami, Florida, and travels through the eastern and western Caribbean. The ship’s itinerary always includes a stop at Royal Caribbean’s private island, Perfect Day at CocoCay.

According to reports, the ship is set to return to Florida on Saturday.

This isn’t the first time in recent months that the Icon of the Seas has been in the headlines. On July 25, a crew member allegedly stabbed another crew member multiple times before jumping off the ship. The alleged perpetrator was found dead in the water a short time later, according to reports. The woman he allegedly stabbed survived the attack.
