Police investigating after baby found deceased in hearse at Gadsden funeral home

GADSDEN, Ala. (WIAT) — The Gadsden Police Department is investigating after an infant was found dead in a hearse on Saturday.

According to Gadsden police, the infant was discovered in a hearse at West Gadsden Funeral Home. The scene was secured, and forensics specialists and detectives are working to process evidence.

According to the West Gadsden Funeral Home, an employee found the infant at around 11:45 a.m.

“These ongoing investigations will not hinder us from providing services to our community. We continue to be your premier provider of professional funeral services. We are fully licensed by The Alabama Board of Funeral Service,” representatives of the funeral home said in a statement.

The statement continued, “We pray for the families involved in the hope for greater understanding of this sad loss. If you know a family looking for a missing toddler, have them contact the authorities immediately.”

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information on this case is encouraged to contact the Gadsden Police Department as 256-549-4500.
