Former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has declared that he has never engaged in election rigging, challenging any politician, past or present, to provide evidence against him.

Speaking on Saturday during a conversation on X Spaces, Amaechi alleged that electoral malpractice in Nigeria is largely driven by state governors and the diversion of public funds through government agencies.

He vowed never to participate in such acts and pledged to focus on ending electoral fraud if elected president in 2027.

“I challenge any politician, living or dead, to come forward and say I was part of rigging. I will never participate in any rigging whatsoever, and I will not do it. What I promise to do now, going forward, is to stop rigging,” he said.

Amaechi added that he would only apologise for any wrongdoing if concrete evidence proved he was involved.

“I challenge any Nigerian to produce evidence that I participated in any election rigging, and I will apologise for that,” he added.

This comes after his July 3 statement in which he expressed willingness to serve only one term if he wins the 2027 presidential ticket of the African Democratic Congress (ADC). The former Rivers State governor said the decision would honour Nigeria’s unwritten power rotation arrangement between the North and South.
