Deborah Knight appears to have taken a thinly-veiled dig at media personalities who enjoy being in the spotlight.

The seasoned journalist, 52, told this week’s Stellar magazine, she likes to keep her personal life private.

‘I guess some people are comfortable being in the spotlight,’ she said.

‘I am not that person. I’m a very low-key individual, so I don’t really crave that – and have never craved that. I don’t feel comfortable being the headline in any way, shape or form.’

She said she prefers to keep her personal life out of the spotlight but understands there is interest in being a high-profile public figure.

It comes after Deborah stepped away from her role on 2GB’s Money News and returned to a full-time television position at Nine last month.

Deb took on the role of presenter for the national 9News Morning bulletin at 11:30am each weekday.

She also presents 9News Afternoon each weekday in Sydney and will continue to host A Current Affair on Saturday night.

‘I’m incredibly excited to be stepping back into a full-time television role with 9News and Current Affairs,’ said Deborah in a statement.

‘It’s a fantastic opportunity to be part of the daily news cycle and connect with viewers during these important bulletins.

‘I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my time in radio, particularly hosting Money News, and I’m grateful for the wonderful listeners who tuned in. I’m also very pleased to continue hosting A Current Affair on Saturday nights.’

Deb first joined 2GB’s afternoon program in 2020, reportedly on a $600,000 salary, before being moved off the role in late 2023 due to disappointing ratings.

At the time, the broadcaster was said to be ‘shattered’ by the decision.

Despite the shake-up, Deb quickly bounced back, taking over Money News in November 2023 in a revamped 7pm-8pm slot.

And it didn’t take long for her to prove the doubters wrong.

Deb helped drive Money News to a 13.3 per cent share in the latest ratings survey -ranking her number one in the country for the timeslot, and more than doubling the show’s audience in Queensland, where it’s also broadcast on Brisbane’s 4BC.

The program also recorded a 0.6 point increase in the latest survey, contributing to 2GB’s strongest ratings result of the year.

Deb’s strong run on Money News came after a difficult few years that saw her unceremoniously dumped from the Today show in 2020.

She later took over Afternoons on 2GB, starting strong with an 11.4 per cent share, only to plummet to a record-low 6 per cent share in 2023 before being replaced.

At the time, Deb framed her new Money News role as a step forward, telling listeners: ‘I am stepping back as host of Afternoons. I am not, however, leaving 2GB. In fact, I’m taking on a new broader network role.’
