One of the funniest things about the Democrat freakout over the Texas redistricting plans is how hypocritical their angst is. They’re flipping out claiming it’s an attack on “democracy” – when they’ve elevated gerrymandering to an art. How can they make these arguments with a straight face, as though people would have no sense of history and be unfamiliar with what they’ve done? Frankly, it’s insulting, but that’s the Democrats.
It turns out it was even too much for some in the media, including Kristen Welker of “Meet the Press.” She had a great question for Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker, who has been helping some of the runaway Texas Democrats who fled to his state.
NBC: Every group that grades the fairness of congressional maps gives Illinois an F and says it’s a “perfect model of everything that can go wrong with redistricting.” Aren’t you a big hypocrite?

“Every group that grades the fairness of congressional maps gives your state an F,” she said. Welker said even Common Cause says Illinois’ map represented a “perfect model of everything that can go wrong with redistricting […]
How do you preserve democracy if you’re using the same tactics you’ve criticized Texas Republicans for?”
Great point.
You are one to speak, JB.
IL’s so gerrymandered, Princeton gave it an F pic.twitter.com/DAdg123O25— Sammy D’Souza (@sammydsouza) August 4, 2025
Pritzker’s response was ridiculous.
“But what I say, what they’re talking about, is a distraction. The reality is the violation of people’s voting rights is what Texas is attempting to do,” he argued, not answering her question. Yet, “Democracy is at stake,” he insisted.
Then the Democrats have been attacking “democracy” for years? How does that make any sense? Indeed, it’s the runaway Democrats who are halting “democracy” by stopping things from being passed on behalf of the people of Texas.
It only makes sense if you read “democracy” the way Democrats seem to be reading it – as in “that which helps us to get control.” The hypocrisy here is just off the charts.
