BEAUFORT, S.C. () — The Beaufort Memorial Hospital has received two national recognitions in orthopedic care.

Selected by Blue Cross Blue Shield, the hospital received the Blue Distinction Center for spine surgery and Blue Distinction Center+ for knee and hip replacement, remarks meant to represent the facility’s quality care, treatment expertise and better overall patient results.

“For patients, it can be hard to know how to measure quality in healthcare, but this designation is a widely recognized stamp of approval,” said Dr. Kurt Gambla, Beaufort Memorial chief medical officer.

The criteria used for these distinctions also considers factors such as surgery volume, postoperative readmission and surgery complication rates.

This is not the first time Beaufort Memorial has received a recognition for its quality care. The Beaufort Memorial Joint Replacement Center has achieved an advanced certification in total hip and knee replacement surgery from The Joint Commission, a national healthcare accrediting body.
