Carol Kirkwood left her BBC Breakfast co-stars stunned during Monday’s (11 August) episode as she opened up about her past job roles.
The hit BBC programme was back on TV screens on Monday with Jon Kay joined by Sarah Campbell on the sofa, as she stood in for usual presenter Sally Nugent.
The duo were joined by fellow BBC reporters throughout the show, including Carol, who brought BBC viewers all of the latest weather updates, with a heatwave predicted to takeover the UK in the coming days.
After she concluded one of her weather reports, Jon quizzed Carol about the jobs she worked as a teenager, after a news report suggested it had become increasingly difficult for youngsters to find jobs during the summer holidays.
“Carol, we’re talking this morning about summer holiday jobs. Did you have a job when you were a teenager? What did you used to do to earn a bit of cash?” Jon asked Carol.
“Yes, I did,” she confirmed. “I worked as a housemaid, as a waitress, as a receptionist, all these things!”
Stunned by Carol’s extensive job history, Jon said, “You did everything!”
However, Carol hadn’t finished and added another occupation to her list, saying: “Plus, a post woman as well! In Edinburgh.”
This revelation left Jon taken aback, as he responded: “A post woman?! You didn’t used to predict the weather for your neighbours? That kind of thing?”
“No, but you know, you used to go in the mornings, you’d smell toast, bacon, sausages. Ooh, it’d make you hungry!” Carol laughed.
As Carol bid farewell to viewers, Jon and Sarah began to discuss summer jobs, with Sarah revealing she worked in a pub during the holidays and “loved it”.
The pair proceeded to acknowledge the difficulties teenagers are facing with finding jobs now, sharing how it is not as easy as it once was.
