Jonathan Bennett, known for his role in “Mean Girls,” shared on Sunday that his husband, Jaymes Vaughan, has been dealing with a condition called a Schatzki ring, which affects his ability to eat properly.
Bennett, 44, posted an Instagram video of Vaughan, 42, eating his first meal after undergoing a procedure to fix the condition.
Bennett expressed, “This is the first time out of the more than 3,400 meals I’ve shared with him where I didn’t see him struggling to eat.” The actor, famous for his Hallmark movies, elaborated further.
He explained, “Jaymes has had a condition that has made it nearly impossible for him to eat without vomiting for almost his whole adult life. Yesterday, he underwent a procedure to widen his throat, and this meal is his first after addressing the Schatzki ring issue.”
A Schatzki ring, as explained by Bennett, “is a ring of tissue that forms at the lower end of the esophagus, near where it connects with the stomach. It can make eating incredibly difficult.”
The “Cake Wars” host said that he shared the post about Vaughan’s health battle “in case it could help someone who has this condition but didn’t know about it for 20 years like my husband.”
“Talk to your doctor and ask questions,” Bennett added, “you never know how much it can help your life.”
In the video, Vaughan enjoyed an omelette and hash browns as he got emotional in front of Bennett, who was recording him.
“Oh my God, babe. Is this what it’s like when you eat and it goes down?” the “Amazing Race” alum asked Bennett, who replied, “Yes.”
Fans and other celebrities showed Vaughan support in the comments section.
“Wow! I had no idea you were going through that. I’m so happy for you,” wrote former Hallmark star Danica McKeller.
“This angel deserves the world,” the “Young and the Restless” alum Hunter King said.
Bennett and Vaughan have been together since 2016. They met on the news program “Celebrity Page” when Vaughan interviewed Bennett.
“When I saw him setting up to do the interview, I thought he was the most beautiful man I’d ever seen,” Bennett told The Knot in 2021.
The actor further recalled, “I ran to the bathroom to fix my hair. I came out of the bathroom and his producer Jade was standing in front of me. I asked her this exact question: ‘Am I about to meet my future husband?’ And she said, ‘I think so.’”
The couple got engaged in Nov. 2020 and tied the knot at a resort in Mexico less than two years later.
