THREE teenagers were arrested “in an arcade” after a man was allegedly beaten to death with rocks on a beach.

Police were scrambled to Leysdown-on-Sea on the Isle of Sheppey, Kent, at around 7pm yesterday evening following reports of an altercation involving a small group of people.

There, emergency crews discovered a man in his 40s suffering from serious injuries after being assaulted, Kent Police said.

Despite the best efforts of paramedics, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

A short time later, a 16-year-old girl and two teenage boys, aged 14 and 15, were arrested on suspicion of murder.

Locals claimed that the man was “hit with stones and rocks” before he died.

Anthony West, site manager at Jimmy G’s Amusements, said the teens were arrested in the arcade near the seafront.

The 29-year-old told The Sun: “They were arrested in our arcade.

“I was working in the ice cream shop across the road at the time.

“I heard a commotion so came outside to see what was going on.

“There were four cop cars parked out the front.

“One of the boys was in handcuffs in the car.”

Anthony said cops called for back-up, with around 15 police cars arriving in total.

Anton Jasnu, 34, manager of Quick Convenience store, ran out of his shop to help.

He told The Sun: “I was told at first that someone had had a heart attack, so I went out to see if I could help.

“People were trying to give him CPR and he had tissue on the back of his head, I think they were trying to stem bleeding.”

All three suspects remain in custody as the police investigation into the tragedy continues.

Locals said the area of the attack was busy with people enjoying the Sunday sunshine.

Specialist officers have brought a sniffer dog to the crime scene as they continue their search for evidence.

A police spaniel was today seen sniffing around a small area with police tape around it.

The cordon was set up in a large clearing behind the beach, in front of a caravan park, with officers still at the scene today.

They have also covered a few areas of the scrap land behind Warden Bay Beach.

POLICE APPEAL CONTINUES

One witness saw emergency service workers administering CPR to the victim but did not see the events leading up to it.

The man said: “I saw them doing CPR but I didn’t see anything else.”

Another added: “I live nearby, I saw two ambulances and six or seven police cars go past and the air ambulance I I thought ‘it’s something serious then’.”

Another local was shocked to find out what had happened.

She thought the helicopter sent last night was the coast guard which they “get a lot” at this time of year.

Cops are appealing for any witnesses that may be able to assist the investigation to come forward.

Anyone with information has been asked to call Kent Police on 01622 690690 quoting 10-1384.
