Police say the mother escaped the day after she was beaten with a hammer, driving herself to a fire station where she was seen with significant injuries.

A Baker County man is in the Baker County Jail after holding his mother prisoner for six days, according to a newly released arrest report.

Cory Byron Lord, 34, is charged with kidnapping, false imprisonment, and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.

The Baker County Sheriff’s Office says he held his mother hostage from July 23 to July 29. He was booked last Tuesday on August 5.

According to BCSO, on July 29, an elderly woman arrived at a fire station in Glen St. Marys with injuries to her head and face. She told rescue personnel that she had been beaten by her son with a hammer.

She was later interviewed by a BCSO sergeant and said she had been held at her home, where she lived with her son, since July 24, the report says.

The day before she escaped on July 28, he had beaten her, the report says. Evidence photos show the woman with swelling on the right side of her face, causing her right eye to swell shut. She also had “multiple visible bruises to her facial area” and “what appeared to be dried blood on the front of her clothing,” according to the report.

BCSO says Lord has a history of violent behavior, including previous arrests for domestic battery and assault, and had been subject to “multiple” involuntary mental health evaluations under the Baker Act.

Deputies went to the home to arrest Lord on July 29. After engaging with police, he barricaded himself inside, the arrest report says.

Undersheriff Randy Crews said the reason Lord was not booked until August 5 because he was bitten by a K9 during his arrest.

He recovered in the hospital from the bite and was then booked into the Baker County Detention Center.
