(NewsNation) — Hand soap sold across the United States and in Puerto Rico has been recalled due to a dangerous bacterial contamination.

Several over-the-counter soap products from DermaRite Industries were found to contain Burkholderia cepacia complex, a bacterium that could lead to “serious and life-threatening infections,” the company warned.

The recall includes DermaKlee, DermaSarra, KleenFoam and PeriGene soaps. A full list of affected products and their lot numbers can be found on the DermaRite website.

“In healthy individuals with minor skin lesions the use of the product will more likely result in local infections, whereas in immunocompromised individuals the infection is more likely to spread into blood stream leading to life-threatening sepsis,” DermaRite said in a news release.

Symptoms of bacteria exposure include fever, fatigue and possible respiratory infections for patients with compromised immune systems, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Infections from the bacterium could lead to death, the CDC said.

As of Aug. 8, DermaRite had not received reports of anyone getting sick from the products.

For questions about the recall, customers can email voluntary.action@dermarite.com or call 973-569-9000, extension 104, during normal business hours.
