CLEVELAND HEIGHTS, Ohio (WJW) — Football superstar Travis Kelce is opening up about how he fell in love with pop idol Taylor Swift.
Gracing the cover of the GQ September issue, Kelce got candid with the publication in an interview released early online, actually revealing a little bit about his private life — something many celebrity profiles shy away from.
Travis Kelce gushes about Taylor Swift: ‘We fell in love’
“Nothing I’ve ever done has been a controlled, organized process,” the three-time Super Bowl winner admitted in the interview. “When I say it was so organic, we fell in love just based off the people we were sitting in a room together with.”
Kelce, who has officially been dating the world famous singer-songwriter since October 2023, said the pair have similar personalities, and even compared Swift to his mother (in a good way).
“We are two fun-loving people who have the morals to appreciate everyone for who they are,” he told GQ. “We share all those values. It kind of just took the **** off.”
Writer Sean Manning dug deep into how Kelce does really care about what people think about him and that he works hard to be a role model, despite the “meathead jock stereotype that he sometimes seems to wear.” Indeed, Kelce is a man in touch with his feelings.
Manning even got him to talk about having to go to a therapist in college and not being selected by the Cleveland Browns in the NFL draft (“I cried in [then head coach Rob Chudzinski’s] office and said, ‘I will f******* die for this city!'”).
Taylor Swift to appear on Travis Kelce’s ‘New Heights’ podcast after announcing new album
Kelce is one of the most well-known American football players in the world, all while dating one of the most famous women in the world (even taking her to Northeast Ohio every now and then) — something Manning concluded Kelce doesn’t have an ego about.
“Kelce talks about Swift freely, with the confident adoration of a sturdy relationship, and with obvious pride,” Manning wrote. “Not macho pride in his having attained the seemingly unattainable, or the overprotective possessiveness so often confused for chivalry. Kelce expresses selfless pride. Immaculate pride. The kind he, of traditionally Midwestern stock, has been unwilling to express about his own accomplishments when I’ve raised them.”
The interview was released as Swift announced on a teaser for the New Heights podcast, hosted by Kelce and his brother/former NFL player Jason Kelce, that she has a new album. The podcast drops Wednesday.
